ILPA Workshop SeriesThe ILPA Workshop Series, offered in conjunction with the Members-Only Conferences, is structured to deliver high quality programs with sophisticated, timely content, through interactive sessions led by industry thought-leaders. Topics are sourced directly from the membership, the Education Committee and the ILPA Board and are required to meet a standard of quality that has become expected at the conferences. All workshop materials are posted to the ILPA’s website for access by all members. Some of our previous workshops have included: The Evolution and Dynamics of Clean Tech InvestingDavid Licoln, Element Partners Objective: To provide a market overview of the clean tech opportunity (including market size, participants, types of technologies) and to identify factors for success and areas that present challenges. Portfolio Monitoring and Rebalancing from an Asset Allocation Perspective 201Dr. Barry E. Griffiths & Ian H. Charles, Landmark Partners Objective: To provide a framework for monitoring private equity portfolio returns (absolute, relative, beta/alpha) and risk across fund factors (strategy, size, region, manager) and program attributes (liquidity, allocation, resources, skills). Participants will also be introduced to quantitative filtering and screening tools that help define which managers should be part of any rebalancing exercise. Finally, a variety of transaction structures will be introduced that can be used to rebalance the private equity portfolio and create the optimal risk/return profile for investors who are looking to expand, maintain or reduce their overall exposure to the asset class. Portfolio Construction 201: Avoiding the Index in PETom Keck & Jay Rose, Stepstone Group Objective: Participants will review portfolio construction theory developed by StepStone, including defining the Private Equity index and appropriate diversification, and will use case materials to develop an optimal sub-sector allocation strategy. Post Investment Due Diligence 101: Best Practices in Real Time Monitoring and Analysis of an Alternative Asset PortfolioStewart Hay, SL Capital LLP Objective: Participants will review and identify current best practices developed by SL Capital LLP to perform post investment due diligence of private equity funds. Legal 101: Investing in Asia and Asia-Focused Funds: Commercial, Tax and Regulatory Due Diligence IssuesJohn Fadely, Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP Objective: Participants will gain an understanding of prevailing market terms for Asia-focused private equity funds, as well as tax and regulatory issues that are commonly encountered when structuring investments in certain key Asian jurisdictions. Participants will also learn how to apply this understanding to the negotiation of private equity funds terms and the structuring of direct investments.
