ILPA Institute Local Edition: Melbourne

For the past 10 years, the ILPA Institute has been educating limited partner professionals in outstanding fashion in Chicago, San Francisco and London. Our comprehensive curriculum delivered by seasoned academics, leading professionals and industry practitioners is designed by LPs for LPs and is ever-evolving to reflect the diverse needs of our dynamic membership.

In response to growing member demand, we are proud to launch the newly designed Local Edition that will bring the Institute curriculum to new places and to even more professionals. By expanding the Institute experience, we're empowering members directly in their own regions without the need for significant travel. We look forward to seeing you in town!

Course Overview

The Institute Melbourne Local Edition is a newly designed ILPA-produced introductory course in response to growing demand globally. This LP focused training has been created to reach more limited partners in more places.

This course is offered exclusively to ILPA members and is suitable for all investment and non-investment staff who wish to gain a more effective, deeper understanding of the private equity asset class. Professionals throughout the LP organization will benefit from participating in this program.

PROGRAM LEVEL: Overview

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Any LP professional wishing to deepen their exposure and understanding of the PE asset class. This class is especially well-suited for those professionals who can't or do not wish to travel for training; wish to establish and deepen industry connections within their local area; desire to supplement academic study with a practitioner-led, experiential education experience

PRE-REQUISITE: No pre-requisites are required to attend the program

PRE-READING: Reading materials will be sent to participants prior to the start of the session. These will include 1-2 hours of required reading, course preparation as well as suggested readings

CREDIT: Earn 16 CPE Credits

Michael Mazzola

Lead Instructorant

Mike Mazzola is the recently retired Senior Vice President and head of Alternative Investments at MetLife where he was responsible for a global portfolio of private equity, hedge fund investments and direct middle market debt and equity investments from 2007-2017. At MetLife, Mike managed one of the largest global institutional private equity portfolios in the industry. From 1998 through 2007, Mike was involved in several private equity ventures including Inter- Atlantic Fund, a financial services industry focused venture capital fund, and formed GEF Private Equity Partners, a fund of funds platform for Gefinor USA, part of a Swiss family office. Mike is a graduate of the Simon School at the University of Rochester in 1985 with a major in Public Accounting and Finance. Mike attended New College of Florida earning a BA in Economics in 1983.

David Parrish

Lead Instructor

David B. Parrish is a partner at the law firm of DLA Piper and one of the industry’s leading LP counsel. His practice primarily focuses on representing investors in reviewing and negotiating alternative investment documentation (including limited partnership agreements, subscription agreements, and private placement memoranda) and in negotiating and preparing of side letters. David is also experienced in co-investments and secondary market transactions, advisory board matters, general partner removal transactions and fund dissolution matters. David received his B.A. degree, with honors, in Political Science from the University of Texas – El Paso. He received his J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Houston Law Center.
