The Portfolio Construction course, part of ILPA’s “Intensive” series, provides an intensive experience for the participant looking to build a successful investment portfolio and understand the dependent considerations. Participants will develop an understanding of how a successful private equity program is constructed and will learn to practically apply this knowledge to program considerations and portfolio design. This interactive course is delivered through a combination of expert lectures and case studies.

This course is designed for experienced limited partner professionals who are responsible for constructing and managing a private markets portfolio or for those looking to develop a thorough understanding of the role of portfolio construction in the private equity investment process.

Key Learning Objectives
- Evaluate the role of private investments in a portfolio and their role in achieving objectives
- Describe different private investment program strategies and appraise their associated risks
- Asses private investment performance through different measurement techniques including correlations and risk measurement
- Understand the resources required to execute and monitor a private investment program, including the option for provisioning third party services
- Apply the data, analytical tools and techniques to model and assess a private equity program
PROGRAM LEVEL: Advanced
PRE-REQUISITE: Three or more years of experience directly managing and monitoring a private equity program. Applicants with less than 3 years of experience are required to have completed the ILPA Institute Level I program and submit a letter of endorsement on company letterhead (sample letter available here). The letter of endorsement will establish that the applicant exhibits managerial and leadership potential. They must also demonstrate a level of professional poise and financial acumen necessary to contribute to a senior learning environment. Candidates will be accepted based on availability and subject to ILPA review.
PRE-READING: Reading materials will be sent to participants prior to the start of the session. These will include 2-4 hours of required reading, course preparation as well as suggested readings.
