Michael Klaster has over 25 years of experience in the financial sector in various roles. He works since 2020 as Portfolio Director for Legal & General overseeing the £10bln Shareholder Fund balance sheet and in particular investments in Private Debt, Private Equity and Infra. Prior to that Michael was Head of the General Account for Aegon Asset Management in the Netherlands responsible for both relationship and portfolio management overseeing Aegon its £30bn General Account balance sheet.
He worked in the first phase of his career at the Investment side, notably as an Equity Analyst and a Head of Research at Fortis and as a Portfolio Manager at Blue Sky Group. He then switched to becoming the CIO of a £500m Dutch investment boutique.
Since 2005 when under his supervision the first Sustainable Alternative Mix Fund was launched in Europe he is involved in Sustainability, Impact and ESG. He executed over £5bn in Sustainable investments and he was head of the Blended Finance Working Group of the UN AOA in 2023 and he is passionate to work on blended finance structures that work on an insurance balance sheet.
Michael studied both Econometrics and Monetary Economics at Groningen University as well as MBA at the University of Nyenrode. He lectured for more than a decade Economics and Alternative Investments at the Free University of Amsterdam and he wrote several scientific articles. Michael is a regular speaker on conferences and panels specifically on topics like blended Finance as well as Insurance solutions.
