Walter is currently Managing Director, Sustainable Investing, Private Markets at Manulife Investment Management. Heading up sustainable investing for the global private equity, private credit, and venture capital businesses. Walter also oversees several cross-asset class functions within the wider private markets business, including sustainability reporting and ESG regulations.
Previously, Walter was a Principal on the Responsible Investing Team, part the CIO’s Total Fund Management Group, at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, a C$221B AUM global asset owner. His primary focus was on developing the organization’s ESG integration, corporate engagement, and responsible investing strategies.
Before that, Walter worked as an Associate Portfolio Manager at Jarislowsky Fraser Global Investment Management, a C$37B AUM privately owned investment management firm, where he focused on fundamental equity research, portfolio management, and helped develop the U.S. and international institutional client strategy. One of his core accomplishments was helping establish the firms sustainable investing strategy.
Walter maintains an active role in the community having served on multiple not-for-profit boards and industry committees over the years. He is currently a member of the ISSB Investor Advisory Group (IIAG), member of the private credit working group, ESG Data Convergence Initiative (EDCI), and is an advisory board member of Investors for a Sustainable Digital Economy. He is also an Adjunct Professor within the Bachelor of Commerce program at York University in Toronto, where he teaches Ethics for Investment Professionals and Sustainable Investing.
