Peter Freire was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA) in June 2015, with the mandate to grow and diversify membership and enhance the value of the organization’s research and educational offerings to members. Prior to joining the ILPA, he had a successful 18-year career at CEB (formerly Corporate Executive Board) where he was responsible for CEB’s global portfolio of HR businesses, principally the Corporate Leadership Council.
He was also responsible for CEB’s businesses in a number of regions outside of North America, including Asia-Pacific. More recently, Peter was a Managing Director and Member of the Executive Committee at the World Economic Forum. He has also served as an advisor and consultant to several startups and private companies operating subscription-based business models, primarily in the human capital/talent management fields. Mr. Freire, a Fulbright Scholar, earned his undergraduate degree in economics from the London School of Economics and his MBA from Harvard Business School. Married with two teenage sons, he resides in the Washington DC metro area.

Shawna Kaufman joined the ILPA in 2016 with a mandate to drive the strategic engagement of members. In this role, she is responsible for deeply understanding current and prospective members, and for coordinating across the ILPA's services and activities to maximize their impact on member priorities. Additionally, she is responsible for overseeing the ILPA's conferences, summits, and global events, which represent a key forum for member engagement.
Prior to joining the ILPA, Ms. Kaufman was a strategy consultant with the Monitor Group where she worked with the world's leading organizations to help them grow. As a leader of the firm's Customer & Marketing Strategy practice, she helped her clients drive top-line growth by exploring and addressing the needs of their customers, members, and employees. She worked with executives across North America, Europe, and Africa to understand the challenges they face, and to design & deploy integrated programs to help achieve their ambitions.
Ms. Kaufman holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, an MSc from The London School of Economics and Political Science, and a BA from Queen’s University in Canada.

As Managing Director of Industry Affairs for the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA), Jennifer Choi directs the association’s engagement with external industry stakeholders to inform and enhance ILPA’s education, research, membership and advocacy platforms. Ms. Choi also leads the implementation of ILPA’s responses to emerging issues impacting the asset class, including efforts to establish and promote industry best practices.
Prior to joining the ILPA, Ms. Choi served as Vice President of Industry and External Affairs for the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (EMPEA), where she led the association’s member and industry engagement activities, including efforts to encourage policy frameworks that support the growth of the asset class. As EMPEA’s Research Director, she built the industry’s first global database of private equity activity in the emerging markets. A frequent speaker and commentator on the industry, Ms. Choi also oversaw the association's media communications and global institutional partnerships. Previously, Ms. Choi was a consultant with Boston-based Stax Inc., leading due diligence engagements and providing advisory services for the U.S. private equity and venture capital industry.
Jennifer holds a Masters in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and a B.A. summa cum laude in Economics and Political Science from Augustana College.

As Head of Marketing and Communications for the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA), Emily Mendell is responsible for association-wide strategic communications, including content, branding, messaging, media relations, social media and marketing. In her leadership role, she supports the key pillars of activity for the ILPA comprising, education, advocacy, research and community.
Prior to joining the ILPA, Ms. Mendell served as Vice President of Communications for Polaris Partners, a Boston-based venture capital firm where she led the marketing and communications strategy for the partnership and supported the efforts of 100+ technology and healthcare portfolio companies. Previously, she was responsible for leading the strategic communications, brand management, and public relations of the National Venture Capital Association, a national, member-based organization comprised of more than 400 venture capital firms across the United States. She also serves as the Communications counsel to the Global Venture Capital Congress, an organization representing the venture capital and private equity associations around the world.
Emily holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Nancy Hizaka-Vilardo joined the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA) in August 2007 as the Director of Education with a mandate to build out the organization’s education platform including the ILPA Institute, Workshops, Webcasts and Professional Development Seminars.
Prior to joining the ILPA, Nancy was the Account Director at Thomson Reuters, managing a client base of private equity firms and mid-size investment banks across Canada and the USA providing products and services relating to the activity of private equity and venture capital markets in North America, Europe and Asia. This followed several years as Manager, Marketing & Product Development at Macdonald & Associates, a boutique research firm that tracked the activities of the Private Equity and Venture Capital markets in Canada, taking the lead in the design and execution of marketing strategies for their Canadian private equity online data platform.
Nancy received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto, where she specialized in Environmental Science and Psychology.

Matthew DeMatteis is the ILPA's Director of Research. His primary responsibilities include LP-focused research papers, the ILPA Private Markets Benchmark, and an annual LP compensation survey. Matthew also leads several ILPA best-practices initiatives, including the Fee Transparency Initiative, Reporting Best Practices, and Due Diligence Questionnaire. Prior to joining the organization in 2013, he was a Director at LP Capital Advisors, where he managed their fund diligence, advisory, and fund monitoring/analytics services. Matthew received his undergraduate degree in finance from Syracuse University.

Pamela Jenkins is the Event Manager at the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA), responsible for the overall planning and execution of the ILPA’s annual flagship events, the General Partner Summit, Members’ Conference and European Forum. Since joining the ILPA in 2012, Pamela has moved up through progressive positions including running member services and the global event program.
Prior to the ILPA, Pamela worked in the hospitality industry in positions with Hilton, Holiday Inn and Princess Cruises. Pamela is an honours graduate of the Special Events Planning for Destination Tourism program at George Brown College.
Tyler Burton is the Chief of Staff of the Institutional Limited Partners Association, having joined the organization in 2014 as a Research Associate. Prior to ILPA, he was a Portfolio Associate with BMO Harris Private Banking where he helped manage investment portfolios for high-net-worth individuals. Tyler began his career as part of a rotational program through the Wealth Management divisions of BMO Financial Group.
Tyler earned his Bachelor of Applied Science (Mechanical Engineering) and MBA degrees from Queen’s University, and has passed all three levels of the CFA Program. He currently resides in Toronto.
Nate Austin works with Jen Choi, the Managing Director of Industry Affairs, in her capacity as the point of contact for engagement with external stakeholders and as a coordinator of industry initiatives. Nate is responsible for coordinating ILPA’s member driven initiatives, developing communication channels between ILPA’s membership and relevant stakeholders, and supporting research initiatives as needed.
Prior to joining ILPA, Nate worked for Anari Worldview, an asset allocation research consultancy developing research conferences for institutional investor leaders around the world and for Anari Inc., as a special consultant in private equity marketing, sourcing, and exits especially regarding energy companies.
Nate graduated from George Washington University with a BA in International Affairs concentrated in economics.
Mandy Ilk joined the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA) in March 2014, working in both the Accounts and Education Department. In May of 2015 Mandy procured the role as the Education Coordinator and has been in charge of the coordination and execution of the ILPA Institute courses, Webcasts, Workshops and the Professional Development Seminar series. Mandy also assists other ILPA departments with their onsite events.
Mandy came to ILPA from a background in the Art Industry, spending 11 years at a notable Toronto Auction Firm. She holds her Honors Bachelor of Arts Degree from The University of Toronto, where she specialized in Literature with a minor in Cinema Studies.
Emily Sands is the Membership and Events Associate at the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA). Acting as the touch point for all membership related enquires and administration, new member acquisition and onboarding, as well as the engagement of non-members with a goal of diversifying the membership globally and by organization type. In addition, Emily manages the ILPA’s Global Event Series, which involves planning and executing 19 events annual across the globe.
Prior to joining ILPA, Emily worked in the events industry as a coordinator for one of Toronto’s leading restaurant and events companies, Oliver & Bonacini. More recently, Emily spent time in accounts and operations for Women of Influence, North America’s leading organization of its kind which uniquely offers both women and businesses the best solutions to women’s advancement. Emily holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours from York.
Wei Dai is a Research Associate of ILPA since September 2012. Prior to joining ILPA, Wei was a Research Associate of the Private Equity Team of Thomson Reuters.
Mr. Dai earned his undergraduate degree in Engineering of Tsinghua University in China and his MSc from University of York in England.
